Girls Being Denied Education

Girls being denied education is a major problem that has been going on for a long period of time. Teenage girls have been treated differently from teenage boys, and even after they grow up, men and women have different statuses in society. Teenage girls are starting to stand up to the parts of society that shut them out be speaking up. In 12 Steps to Achieve Gender Inequality in Our Lives, Anna Leach states, “Girls speaking up for themselves is the best solution out there to achieve equality in education.” Malala, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner, who stood up for her rights of education, is an example of a very powerful girl who spoke for herself. After her speech, she was able to raise many girls and women into the world of speaking for themselves. Girls will be the new generation; they need to be encouraged to speak up.

Another solution is to stop harassment and child marriage. Anna Leach stated, “In Bangladesh, fifty percent or more girls are married off before the age of 18, and thirty percent of girls in the age of fifteen to nineteen already have one child.” Girls are still being married off in several areas around the world. After marriage, girls have less chances to get a proper education, since they need to focus on their married life instead of learning. On theguardian.com, Anna Leach said “Girls being married off is a serious problem, but the main reason why parents marry off their children so young is because of the fear of harassment of young girls.” In many countries including Korea, young girls are prone to getting sexually harassed. Because of the fear, parents have no choice but to marry off their girl to a man who can protect her from the dangers of harassment.
